Ka2 Cellular Respiration Flashcards
What is phosphorylation
When molecules have a phosphate added to them so become energy rich
What is ATP used for
To transfer and provide energy to provide pathways and other cellular processes
What are the 3 stages
Glycolysis
Citrix acid cycle
Electron transport chain
What is glycolysis
The breakdown of glucose ro pyruvate
Does not require energy
Where does glycolysis occur
Cytoplasm
What is the fate of products in glycolysis
Pyruvate molecules enter stage 2
ATP can be used in other cellular processes
NASH goes to stage 3
Where does the citric acid cycle occur
Central matrix of the mitochondria
What is anaerobic respiration
Called fermentation
When oxygen is unavailable stage 2 and 3 cannot work
What happens if oxygen is absent
Animal cells
- glycolysis -> pyruvate <> locate acid
Plant/yeast cell
- glycolysis-> pyruvate <> ethonal + co2
Where does the electron transport chain occur
Inner membrane of the mitochondria
