What are the male gametes and where are they produced?
Testes produce sperm in the seminiferous tubules
What is made in the seminiferous tubules?
Sperm
What is the function of the interstitial cells?
They produce testosterone
What do the seminal vesicles and prostate glands do?
They secret fluids that maintain the mobility and viability of the sperm
What is the female gamete and where are they produced?
Eggs (ova) are formed from germline cells inside the ovary
What happens inside of the ovary?
The ovaries contain immature ova in various stages of development. Each egg is surrounded by a follicle which functions to protect the egg and secretes oestrogen.
What is the site of fertilisation?
Oviduct
What is fertilisation?
Mature ova are released into the oviduct where they may be fertilised by sperm to form a zygote
