Recognize the statutory notification requirements when arresting a juvenile
Must notify -Parents as soon as possible W.S. §14-6- 206 -The District Attorney without delay W.S. §14-6-208
Recognize the statutory requirements to notify the parent or guardian when issuing a citation to a juvenile for a crime
the law enforcement agency issuing the
citation or its designee shall take
reasonable actions to notify the parent,
guardian or custodian.
Recognize the parameters of photographing and fingerprinting an arrested juvenile
Not allowed unless:
- Minor arrested for felony
- Delinquency Petition filed alleging a felony
level offense
- Fingerprints found and with court order or
consent of parents
- Adjudicated on felony level offense
Differentiate between the constitutional and statutory rights of an adult and juvenile
- Minors have the same rights as adults
- Do not need parental consent to talk to a
minor – whether a suspect or not
