Q

Explain two reasons why justice is important for Jews. (5)

A
  • One reason is because they believe that God is just and God created the world as a place of justice. This means that Jews should also practice justice themselves. This is supported by ‘just is He.’
  • A second reason is because Judaism has had a system of courts and justice based on the Torah. This is important as Jews have to live their lives according to the mitzvot of the Torah.

Q

Explain two reasons why non-religious people believe that justice is important for the victim. (4)

A
  • One reason is so that the victim can have their suffering recognised by society. This is important so the perpetrator can pay for their crimes.
  • A second reason is because victims believe that they’ve received justice if the perpetrator has been caught and given a sentence. This means that the sentence must be appropriate for the pain they inflicted.

Q

Explain two reasons why Jews believe that justice is important for the victim. (5)

A
  • One reason is because Judaism teaches that justice must always be given. This is important as justice can only be given when the perpetrator gives justice to the victim.
  • A second reason is because the Torah teaches that victims of crime should be compensated for their suffering. This is important so they can receive justice. This is supported by ‘take life for life’
