Q

Explain two causes of crime. (4)

A
  • One cause of crime is poverty. This is because many of the people convicted of shoplifting food were stealing to feed themselves or their family.
  • A second cause of crime is drugs. This is because research studies in the UK show that a lot of stealing crimes are committed by users of crack or heroine trying to pay for their drugs.

Q

Explain two ways in which Jews try to stop people from committing crimes. (4)

A
  • One way is that they deal with the issue of poverty in a religious way. This is because religiously, it teaches that Jews should give one tenth of their income to the poor to prevent people from turning to crime for survival.
  • A second way is that they teach Jews that the Torah commands Jewish people to avoid drugs and alcohol altogether. This is because the Tenakh condemns drunkenness and thus, drugs won’t be a cause of crime.
