Why is justice important for Muslims?
A
- Qur’an describes God as just
- Qur’an says God wants people to treat each other fairly and establish justice
- many hadith show Muhammad treating people fairly or teaching equality
- equality before law is one of the basic principles of the Islamic justice system - has court system with strict rules about justice
- pillar of zakah and charities such as Muslim Aid try to bring justice into the world
- part of role as vicegerents of God’s creation- ensure justice via shari’ah

- philosopher Thomas Hobbes said a system of justice prevents violence and allows us to live in peace in society

important for a victim of crime’s suffering to be recognised and for the perpetrator to pay

- Surah 49: ‘And act justly. Truly, God loves those who are just’.
