P- Tend to come from public schools
DP- research found majority of judges studied at Oxford/Cambridge. 73% judges were privately educated.
WDP- Penny Darbyshire = privately educated judges progressed onto higher courts
P- Training can be lengthy process
DP- in order to qualify a person must have experience in the law
WDP - pool from which judges are selected is very limited
P- mainly older, white, upper class males
DP- few females. Even fewer EM. Unusual for judge to be appointed under 40
WDP- JAC introduced to reduce this, but numbers are still ridiculously low. Doesn’t reflect CSOS
P- Conflicts with SOP
DP- judges not only applying law, but also making it as judges make decisions if there is no previous decision.
WDP- Parliament shoudl be the only law making body in the UK as they are the ones democratically elected!
