Cupboard that houses the Torah scrolls- the most important feature in the synagogue.
Why are the Ten Commandments important in Judaism?
Remind Jews of their most important rules.
What is the Bimah?
Platform in centre of the synagogue. It is where the Torah scrolls are read from.
What is the Menorah?
A seven-branched candlestick - representing each day of God’s creation.
What is Ner Tamid?
Eternal light. Always burning. It shows God is always present.
What is the difference in services between orthodox and reform?
Orthodox- daily services.
Reform- services only on Shabbat and festivals (not daily).
What are the difference in services languages between orthodox and reform?
Orthodox- service in Hebrew.
Reform- service in Hebrew and English.
Difference of Rabbi between orthodox and reform?
Orthodox- Rabbi has back to congregation.
Reform- Rabbi faces congregation.
Difference in seating between orthodox and reform?
Orthodox- Women sit separately to men.
Reform- men and women sit together.
