  • Jews believe god is:
    Omnipotent ( all powerful )
    Omniscient ( all knowing )
    Omnipresent ( Everywhere at all time )
  • In the torah in the first book ( genesis ) it tells us it 4 days to make the universe fir to live in, 2 days to create all living creature, God rested on 7th day ( now sabath )
  • Orthodox jews believe this actually happened ( reject evolution theory ), liberal jews take story less literally

  • God has given many rules / laws
  • 613 Mitzvot in torah, the first 10 are the ten commandments ( God have these to moses after he rescued the Jewish slaves from egypt
  • they are judged at Rosh Hashanah ( Jewish new year ), God judges them over actions from past hear. They are judged after death, God decides how they spend afterlife
  • Divine precsence is the shekkinah

  • Many believe they will got to heaven / paradise ( Gan Eden )
  • People who dont go to heaven go to sheol ( a place of waiting where souls are cleansed )

  • Jews believe God has given them free will to make their own choices, good actions lead to a life of fulfilment, bad actions will distance them from God
  • Mitzvot gives guidance how to use their free will correctley
  • Mitzvot between man and God
    Tell you how to improve their relationship with god, most important are the first 4 of the 10 commandments
  • Mitzvot between man and man
    Tell you how to improve relationship with people around you, help jews to live as members of their faith and community in a way that please God
