Describe the beliefs of a Jew
The key beliefs of Judaism include belief in Yahweh, Mezuzah, the covenant , being God’s chosen people and Shabbath. Judaism is a monotheistic religious meaning that they only believe in one God. Their God’s name is Yahweh. They also believe that they are special and are chosen by God due to their Covenant. The covenant is the belief in a promise between God and Abraham to keep the Jewish people safe. The mezuzah is a wooden box that contains the words of this covenant and is hung outside most Jews’ doors. People of Jewish faith believe that Saturday is the Shabbath or the day of rest.
Where does worship occur for Jews?
Jews worship their God who is called Yahweh, in a synagogue. They worship Yahweh on Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah and Passover. Some of the features of a synagogue are The ark, which contains the scrolls for the Torah, the bimah , which is a raised platform where prayer is performed, the Ner Tamid, which is a perpetual light that reminds Jews of the covenant between God and Abraham and the Rabbi or the teacher. Yom Kippur or the day of atonement, which is a day of repentance and asking for forgiveness. Yom Kippur is also their holiest day.Rosh Hashanah is the 1st day of the Jewish New Year and it reminds Jews that God created the Earth. Passover celebrates the Israelites freedom from slavery in Egypt and it reminds Jews of the covenant that they believe is a promise between God and Abraham to keep the Jewish people safe.
