What is the JTB account of knowledge?
S knows p; p is true; s is justified in believing p.
Cf. car in lobby/smith, ford, Barcelona.
What does the original getter problem show? What is its basic structure?
That one has a JTB for X, but doesn’t have knowledge of X.
JTB based on intermediate premise which turns out to be false.
What is the causal theory of knowledge?
S knows p iff p is casually connected in appropriate way with s’s believing p.
For: intuitive. Mostly correct.
What are the 3 cases of over determination?
- Seeing ‘cow’. Then later actually seeing cow.
- Juliet finds Romeo dead. Poison? Actually natural death. Sufficient challenged.
- Fake barns in county. Sees real barn. Not knowledge.
What is reliabilism? How is a given method reliable?
Justified if formed by reliable cognitive process. Method reliable by frequency it gives true beliefs.
