News story
A story based entirely upon facts – no opinion
Editorial
A news story that represents an opinion. You might see it referred to as an “op-ed” (opinion editorial).
Feature article
A news story that appeals to readers due to a human interest angle
Byline
The name of the reporter who wrote the story, placed atop the published article
Lead
The opening of a news story that contains the 5 W’s (usually the first paragraph)
Inverted pyramid structure
The common method of organizing a news story so that the most important information is presented first, followed by information of decreasing importance
Caption
A brief explanation of a photo, chart, or illustration in an article
