Joints - Subtalar Flashcards
What type of joint is the subtalar?
Plane-type synovial joint.
Articulating surfaces?
Between two of the tarsal bones:
Inferior surface of the body of talus - posterior talar articular surface.
Superior surface of the calcaneus - posterior calcaneal articular facet.
These are covered with articular cartilage.
Ligaments?
1) Posterior talocalcaneal ligament
2) Medial talocalcaneal ligament
3) Lateral talocalcaneal ligament
4) Interroseous talocalcaneal ligament - acts on the talus and calcaneus together. Lies within the sinus tarsi (a small cavity between the calcaneus and talus) - particularly strong ligament.
Movements?
1) Eversion - muscles of lateral compartment
2) Inversion - tibialis anterior
Neurovascular supply?
Arterial supply
1) Posterior tibial artery
2) Fibular artery
Innervation
1) Medial or lateral plantar nerve - plantar aspect
2) Deep fibular nerve - dorsal aspect
