Joints & Its Types Flashcards
fibrous joints
connects bones with collagen fibers; doesn’t allow much movement
cartilages joint
held by cartilage; synchondrosis: costal cartilage & symphysis: fibrocartilaginous pad found between pubic bones
synovial joint
allows extensive joint; contains articular and synovial cartilage and synovial fluid
ball and socket joint
spherical head and round concavity; hip/shoulder
plane/gliding joint
allows movement between 2 flat surfaces; intertarsal/intercarpal
hinge joint
allows angular movement; elbow, knees, between phalanges
pivot joints
allows rotational movement; atlas and axis
condylar joints
allows significant movement in 2 planes, it consists of a convex surface paired with a concave surface; phalanges
saddle joint
2 concave surfaces that articulate with one another; thumb with trapezium
