Joint Structure And Function Flashcards
Diarthrosis
Have 2 layered joint capsule, a joint cavity, synovium lining capsule, synovial fluid, hyaline cartilage and various additional structures
Synarthrosis
Nonsynovial; interosseous connective tissue
- fibrous
- cartilaginous
Fibrous joints
- suture
- gomphosis
- syndresmosis
Suture
Coronal sutures interlock (fused-synostosis)
Gomphosis
Tooth and mandible or maxilla
Syndesmosis
Ligament, cord, or aponeurotic membrane; tib/fib, radius/ulna
Cartilaginous
- symphysis
- synchondrosis
Symphysis
Fibrocartilage disk or plates; symphysis pubis; intervertebral joints; manubrium-sternum
Synchondrosis
Hyaline growth cartilage that converts to bony union- 1st chondrosternal join
Thixotropic properties
Viscosity varies inversely with joint velocity or rate of shear. Rapid-decreased viscosity. Slow- increased viscosity (helps with fine movements)
Uniaxial joint
- hinge- IP joints
- pivot (trochoid)- atlas and axis
Biaxial joints
Condyloid- MCP joint
Saddle- CMC of thumb
Triaxial joints
Plane- carpals and tarsals
Ball and socket- shoulder and hip (circumduction)
