What is flexion?
Any forward movement from anatomical position (apart from the knee)
Eg; Kicking a football when you make contact with the ball
What is extension?
Any backwards movement from anatomical position (apart from the knee)
What is dorsi-flexion?
Lifting your foot towards your shin
What is plantor-flexion?
Moving your foot towards the floor Eg; pointing your toes
What is abduction?
Moving away from the centre line of the body
Eh; Cartwhell in gym
What is adduction?
Moving towards the centre line of the body
Eg; finishing a breaststroke pull out
What is horizontal flexion?
Moving a limb forwards and moving it along the horizon
Eg; when you throw a discus
What is horizontal extension?
Moving a lib behind you and moving it along the horizon
Eg; Prep when you throw a discus
What is lateral rotation?
Twisting the joint away from the centre line of the body
Eg; first position in ballet
What is medial rotation?
Twisting the joint towards the centre line of the body
What is pronation?
When your palms are facing the floor from your radius ulna joint
Eg; Catch in freestyle
What is supernation?
Where your palms face upwards from your radius ulna joint
Eg; When you release a rounders ball
What is lateral flexion?
Side flextion (bending to the side)
What is anatomical position?
Standing face forward, palms facing forward
