Joint Motions Flashcards
Abduction
Body moving AWAY from MIDLINE
Adduction
Body moving TOWARD the MIDLINE
Eversion
Bottom FOOT rotates OUTWARD (laterally)
Inversion
Bottom FOOT rotates INWARD (medially)
Lateral Flexion
Movement AWAY from MIDLINE of body in Frontal Plane. Usually describes neck & trunk movement.
(RIGHT or LEFT)
Flexion
BENDING at Joint where angle b/w 2 bones DECREASE
Extension
Movement at Joint where angle b/w 2 bones INCREASE
Dorsiflexion
Anterior flexion of ankle, where top of foot moves UP & AWAY from ground
Plantar flexion
Posterior extension at ankle, where top[ of foot moves DOWN TOWARD ground; (POINTING TOES)
Internal rotation
Turning in transverse plane TOWARD the MIDLINE of body
External rotation
Turning in transverse plane AWAY from MIDLINE of body
Supination
Tri-planar movement (plantar, flexion, abduction)
FOOT/ANKLE
ex: Forearm rotating INWARD TOWARD the BODY CENTER w/ palm turning to face DOWN body
Pronation
Tri-planar movement (eversion, dorsiflexion, abduction)
FOOT/ANKLE
ex: Forearm rotating OUTWARD from BODY CENTER w/ palm turning to face UP/TOWARD body
Horizontal Abduction
Lateral-Movement AWAY from MIDLINE of body
Horizontal Adduction
Medial-Movement TOWARD from MIDLINE of body
