Luxation (dislocation)
A
Due to trauma- bones pulled away from the normal position next to each other within the joint
- close reduction
- or sling to immobilise the joint for 4 weeks

Joint instability
A
The stifle joint - most common location for ligament rupture leading to joint instability
*Early repair in cranial crucial efforts rupture of knee will guard against osteoarthritis formation

Non-inflammatory joint disease
A
Degenerative joint disease
- ref to as osteoarthrosis
- common in dogs
- chronic, progressive degeneration of articular cartilage and the formation of osteophytes

Infectious inflammatory joint disease
A
E.g. polyarthritic disease and bacterial arthritis
- Ehrlichiosis, Lyme’s dx, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever infectious conditions in DOGS
- Mycoplasma induced polyarthritis
- Bite wounds or systemic spread of bacteria from bloodstream can cause an infected joint
- Tx with antibiotics and supportive therapy

Non-infectious inflammatory joint disease
A
Can be erosive and non-erosive
- immune reaction and antibody formation that lead to a large inflammatory response
- Non-erosive: Sharpei Fever and systemic lupus erythmatosis - dog
- Erosive: Rheumatoid arthritis (not as common)
- Tx: anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant therapies
