Pope Innocent III appoints Stephen Langton- John finds him lacking.

Innocent authorises Interdict as Langton is refused entrance into England. John gains £66,000 from church lands in this time.

John is excommunicated, at this point there is only one Bishop left in England.

Royal income reaches an all time high of £82, 921.

John recognises Langton as Archbishop as he fears deposition and threat of French invasion under Philip Augustus.

John loses at the Battle of Bouvines.
Surrenders England to the pope and John is absolved from excommunication. Becomes the favourite son of the pope.

Abused nobility issue Magna Carta, which is then later annulled by the pope.
