DM power increases staff satisfaction
Flexibility over work , lower turnover
Increased costs
Some do not want responsibility (stress)
What is the result of giving staff responsibility?
They feel valued and important - more motivated to work hard - labour productivity

Hierarchy with many levels (chain of command)
Narrow span of control
Low delegation
Features of Flat organisations?
Few levels in the hierarchy
Wide span of control
High delegation
What is span of control?
Number of employees the manager has control over
What is delegation?
The spread of authority
Why would a business not want delegation?
Because the workers are not highly skilled
