Job Setup (3)
Check equipment alignment to dock; must be flush to platform.
Ensure trailer is set up to take advantage of gravity feed.
Unload aids must be available & functional; totes, roller and proper unload stand.
When opening Overhead doors (10)
Grasp latch with one hand and door handle with other, lift with legs, eyes down.
Raise the door to between waist and shoulder height.
Switch left hand to a palms up position on the bottom edge of the door.
Obtain the door strap with right hand.
Open the door by pushing up on the door with heel of the left hand.
Control door movement with strap.
Doors should be opened slowly to help control package movement behind the door.
Stay alert for shifted loads and falling packages.
Disconnect retainer strap, secure top left and right fittings on left side, nearest door.
Remove retainer bar if necessary and store in designated location.
Set up Extendo (7)
Everyone must be clear of belt, stand to side of extendo.
While inside trailer, maintain 2 foot walk aisle between end of extendo and face of wall.
When using unload stand bring conveyor to face of wall.
Adjust vertical height of the extendo to keep packages in power zone.
Set up rollers when permanent rollers aren;t available.
Add roller sections and T-stands as the trailer empties.
Hook roller sections together to prevent them from separating.
Have a set routine (6)
Face the work while standing at 45 degree angle to conveyor.
Maintain safe walkway to and from trailer.
Keep trailer floors clear of irregs and packages.
Get help, if needed, with over 70s.
Have adequate supply of tote boxes.
Maintain constant awareness of your relationship to the unload device and packages.
Select Package (7)
While removing a package from the wall, visually select the next package to unload.
Move directly from conveyor to the pre-selected package to avoid excess motion.
Keep eyes on the package wall, watch for falling packages.
Obtain package by opposite diagonal corners, rotate no more than one half turn to find label, if necessary.
Follow local procedures for packages that may require special handling.
Determine if haz-mats are prohibited, halt progress, notify sup.
If not prohibited, place with arrows up.
Unload sequence (9)
Using a load stand, select a package at the top, center to begin unloading.
Unload top left section first until packages are in power zone while standing on the ground; about shoulder-height.
Move the stand to the right side to unload top, right section second.
Move stand away from wall, unload bottom, right section third.
Move stand to left side, unload bottom, left section fourth.
This method of unloading prevents package walls from collapsing.
Unload top-down, middle-out on each side of conveyor.
Use load stand for top portions of wall.
Unload one section at a time.
Package Placement (5)
Place package on the conveyor label up or facing package flow.
Use “hand to surface”
Place odd shaped packages, such as tubes, on top of sturdier packages.
Unload tires in bags as normal packages, larger or groups of tires are irregs.
Never pull down package walls.
Maintain continuous flow (2)
When unloading to a roller conveyor, place packages back to back, squarely.
Minimize time away from unloading by combining tasks, such as moving irregs while retrieving tote boxes.
Smalls handling (5)
Unload smalls bags as found in the load, do not store them.
Place all smalls in tote boxes, label down.
Unload totes of smalls as they become full.
Totes should be available to unloader throughout unloading process.
Never place loose smalls on rollers or extendos.
Irreg handling (1)
Maintain continuous flow by setting irregs against trailer wall until you can move them during a trip to rear of trailer or until inbound sweeper can remove them.
Finish unloading (after each feeder) (3)
On completion of trailer, inspect floor for any remaining packages, smalls, overgoods, paper products, loose labels.
Close door and secure latch.
Move to next assignment.
Wrap up (end of day) (4)
Wrap-up starts at beginning of day.
Check area thoroughly for packages, labels, overgoods, etc.
Pick up all supplies, tags, trash, and loose strapping.
Secure all equipment, notify sup of damaged or power down equipment.
