What is job analysis
Job analysis is the process of assessing and defining the components of a post (Wilton, 2016)
Why is job analysis important
Job analysis is important as it clarifies the purpose, content and responsibilities of the job. Whilst also determining the requirements of the vacancy (Wilton, 2016)
Advantages of job analysis (1)
It provides first-hand job related information to both the employee and employer
Advantages of job analysis (2)
Helps create the right job-employee fit, as it helps the employer understand what kind of employee is best suited to deliver a specific job successfully
Disadvantages of job analysis
It’s time consuming, and it may involve personal bias ness. As if the employer worked for the same organisation as the candidate, the process may involve their personal likes and dislikes.
What are outcomes of job analysis (1)
Job description which contains key information such as specific job title and department, main location and specific duties and responsibilities
What are outcomes of job analysis (2)
Person specification which outlines the essential and desirable criteria for the job. Including skills, experience, qualifications and personal attributes (Taylor, 2005)
