JKR PROBE Flashcards
1
Q
what is the objective of this lab test?
A
- to determine the coefficient of soil permeability
- to estimate geotechnical parameters
- to determine soil classification
- to determine allowing bearing capacity of the ground using JKR dynamic cone penetrometer.
2
Q
What is the JKR Probe procedure?
A
- all the equipment are assembled.
- the cone diameter is measured in SI unit.
- the boring rods and hammer are jointed using the rod coupling. Some equipment parts were greased up for an easy disassembly.
- distance of 0.3m was measured and marked on the rod starting from the tip of the cone.
- the equipment was set up on the ground.
- the hammer was pulled until it reached the maximum.
- the hammer was dropped freely to drive the cone into the soils.
- the sum of the number of blows for penetration of 0.3m was recorded in the data sheet.
- the hammer was taken off on the last of 0.3m of each rod and joined the existing rod with another road and hammer.
- the rods were pulled using lifting tools after the penetration reached the requirement.
- the equipment was disassembled and cleaned before storing.
3
Q
How to analyze the data?
A
- plot data depth vs no of blows
- plot data depth vs unconfined compressive strength
4
Q
How to determine the consistency and strength of the soil?
A
depends on the no of blows. 2 = very soft 2-4 = soft 4-8 = medium (firm) 8-15 = stiff 15-30 = very stiff over 30 = hard
