Jesus & Parables Flashcards
The Prodigal Son : What is the Parable about?
Story of a young man who leaves home with his inheritance from his Father and wastes it in a foreign land. Comes home with nothing and at one point thinks about ending it all before going to ask his Father for forgiveness. Father forgives him but his brother is furious that he is celebrated on his return. Father then teaches the older brother that it is important to forgive and to welcome those who wish to repent and share all that the Father has with all his family.
The Prodigal Son : Symbolism of Characters
Father: The father represents God and the strength to forgive and to welcome all back into his care through their repentance and willingness to change. Son: Humanity, the fact that at times we can lose a connection with God and maybe move away from how Christ teaches us to live but we can seek redemption and at our lowest eb can count on God for suppor. The Older Brother: Those who do the right thing. They must still realise however the importance of accepting others and trying to help those that need it as much as they can. Important not to discriminate between.
