A
To discover if participants would change their answer based on a group estimate for a difficult task

What was Jenness (1932)’s method?
A
- Jenness asked participants to estimate the number of beans in a glass jar- it was ambiguous and they couldn’t know the correct answer
- Initially, participants estimated individually, they were then put into groups and asked to provide a group estimate
- After this they were once more asked if they would like to stick with or change their initial answer

- Jenness found that nearly all participants changed their answer and brought it closer to the group estimate
- Average rate of change was higher amongst females
