Compliance is when you change your opinion in public based on those around you, but not in private

Identification is when an individual changes their opinion in public and in private however its usually temporary

Internalisation is the deepest form of conformity and its when an individual changes their opinion in public and in private, however it is permanent

Becoming vegetarian because all your friends are, however leaving that group of friends and still being vegetarian
What is informational social influence?
Informational social influence is when we conform because we want to be correct. We may consider others views to be valid & reliable, or maybe because we are unsure of what to do or perceive others to have more expertise than us so we go along with a majority
What is normative social influence?
Normative social influence is when we conform because we want to fit in. We go along with a certain behaviour in order to be accepted. This concerns a need for social acceptance. We aren’t in doubt of the correct belief or behaviour, but feel pressure from the group, so we go along with it in order to be accepted
What doe collectivist cultures say about conformity?
Collectivist cultures value family and society more than the needs of themselves, because of this they are said to have higher conformity levels
