Contradicts scientific and religious views at the time. Stevenson could’ve been influenced by surgeon John hunter who was very experimental and secretive in his practices. He often experimented on himself, just like Jekyll.

As Hyde becomes stronger jekyll gets weaker. Evil begins to take over good.

Stevenson uses the character fo jekyll and jekylls narrative to convey his own views on society at the time. That each person is commingled out of good and evil.
