Story of the Door
A
- Utterson goes on a walk with Enfield every Sunday
- On this particular walk, Enfield tells Utterson the Story of the Door:
- a man tramples over a little girl
- people run over and have a desire to harm the man
- Enfield catches the man
- a doctor says the girl is fine
- the man gives a £100 cheque signed with a different name
- Enfield and Utterson agree to never discuss the matter again.

Search for Mr Hyde
A
- Utterson looks at Jekyll’s will and sees he is leaving everything to Hyde
- Utterson visits Lanyon to see what he can find out
- Lanyon has never heard of Hyde and hasn’t spoken to Jekyll in a long time
- Utterson has nightmares about Hyde
- Utterson and Hyde meet but their meeting leaves Utterson even more confused than before.
- Utterson hears that Hyde has a key to Jekyll’s house and servants are told to obey him
- Utterson thinks Hyde is blackmailing Jekyll due to some misdemeanour of his youth.

- Jekyll and hid friends enjoy dinner together
- Utterson stays behind to talk to Jekyll about Hyde and the will
- Jekyll turns pale and is very dismissive when Utterson mentions Hyde
- Jekyll asks Utterson to trust him and reassures him that he does not need to worry
- Utterson reluctantly agrees to help if needed.

The Carew Murder Case
A
- A year later a maid recognises Mr Hyde talking to an elderly man
- Hyde beats the man to death with his stick
- A letter for Utterson is found on the body
- The police contact Utterson. He explains the stick belongs to Hyde and identifies the body as Sir Danvers Carew.
- Utterson and the police go to Hyde’s address where they find the other half of the stick and a cheque book.
- Mr Hyde proves very difficult to track down.

Incident of the Letter
A
- Utterson visits Jekyll who looks very ill
- Jekyll claims that Hyde is gone and he will never see or hear from Hyde again.
- Jekyll shows Utterson a letter from Hyde saying that Hyde has made his escape
- Jekyll tells Utterson that Hyde had a part in creating the will and Utterson thinks Hyde wanted to murder Jekyll.
- Poole tells Utterson that no post was delivered that day.
- Mr Guest points out Hyde’s handwriting is the same as Jekyll’s only at a different angle.

Remarkable Incident of Dr Lanyon
A
- After Mr Hyde’s disappearance, Jekyll becomes more sociable again.
- Jekyll suddenly stops accepting visitors and refuses to see Utterson
- Utterson visits Lanyon to find out what is wrong with Jekyll but finds him ill. Lanyon says he has suffered a shock and becomes distressed at the mention of Jekyll.
- Dr Lanyon dies
- Utterson receives an envelope from Lanyon that is not to be opened until after the death or disappearance of Dr Jekyll.

Incident at the Window
A
- On one of their Sunday walks Utterson and Enfield pass Jekyll’s house and see him in the window
- Jekyll refuses to come outside
- Jekyll says he is very unhappy
- Part way through their conversation Jekyll’s face fills with horror before he closes the window and disappears from sight.
- Utterson and Enfield are shocked.

The Last Night
A
- Poole visits Utterson and explains that Jekyll has locked himself in the lab and Poole fears ‘foul play’
- Utterson goes to Jekyll’s house and Poole calls Jekyll but the reply is not his voice.
- Poole explains that the person in the lab has been crying out for medicine and sending him out for drugs.
- Utterson orders Poole to break the door down
- They find Hyde dying on the floor in Jekyll’s clothes
- They find an envelope addressed to Utterson. It instructs Utterson to read the document from Lanyon and Jekyll’s enclosed confession.

Dr Lanyon’s Narrative
A
- Written to Utterson from Lanyon’s perspective
- Lanyon describes how he was surprised to receive a letter from Jekyll.
- The letter asks for Lanyon’s help, requests that he goes to the lab and collect certain chemicals and tells him that someone will come at midnight to collect them.
- Lanyon does what the letter says.
- The man mixes a potion and drinks it in front of Lanyon and turns into Jekyll
- Jekyll gave him a full explanation which shocks Lanyon
- Lanyon confirms that Mr Hyde did murder Sir Danvers Carew.

Henry Jekyll’s Full Statement of the Case
A
- told from Jekyll’s perspective.
- Jekyll explains that he created Mr Hyde out of his belief that people have two sides
- Jekyll used his potion to transform into Hyde so that he could enjoy himself in a way that he couldn’t as Jekyll without harming his reputation
- Hyde became more powerful and Jekyll could no longer control the transformations
- One day he turned into Hyde involuntarily
- As he ran out of the drug he realised the next time he turned into Hyde he would not be able to turn back.
