Q

What is the rest vertical dimension

A

vertical dimension when jaw is in rest position. Rest position It is the habitual postural position of the mandible when patient is resting comfortably and condyles are in a neutral unstrained position in the glenoid fossa

Q

What are some factors affecting RVD

A

head posture, presence/ absence of teeth, body position, presence/absence of prosthesis, chronic neuromuscular disorder, drugs that have muscle relaxant effect, parafuctions like bruxism, age( due to alveolar growth)
