Jasper Jumper Flashcards
Jasper jumper basic… What it is…???
Fixed… flexible… Interarch… Force module…. MYOFUNCTIONAL APPL…
Composed of Stainless steel spring…
Attached to maxillary 1st molar on one end… N to the arch wire between canine n 1st Pm on the other end… (So INTERarch)
Jasper jumper indicated when?
To correct SKELETAL class 2... (Maxillary excess... N mand deficiency)
Similarities between HERBST n JASPER JUMPER…??
- Both r FIXED myofunctional appl
2. Used in pts where co-operation is questionable… So aka NON-COMPLIANT Class 2 corrector…
Differences between HERBST n JASPER JUMPER??
The difference between the two lies in Flexibility of the appliance (mechanical design) (this ASKED!)
1. HERBST — Is RIGID type… Lateral movement for PT is difficult.. It consists of Tube n plunger…. doesn’t allow the pt to perform mand movement in transverse direction….
- JASPER JUMPER - FLEXIBLE!! therefore lateral movements for pt r possible… It consists of stainless steel coil…
Jasper jumper parts? (2)
- Force module
2. Anchor part
Jasper jumper… Effects it brings abt??
Brings abt both
- Skeletal n
- Dento-alveolar changes…
Jasper jumper… Skeletal effects??
- Displaces maxilla distally…
- Brings Condyle forward…
- Clockwise rotation of mandible…
Jasper jumper.. dento-alveolar changes??
- Ant translation of maxillary incisors.. also their tipping…
- Intrusion of mand incisors
Jasper jumper is modification of ??
HERBST…
Who introduced the concept of jumping bite?
Kingsley
Explain the theory of JUMPING BITE….??
The jumping bite concept is used to bring the mandible forward….
Or say.. It is used for the treatment of mandibular retrusion… Kingsly used vulcanite palatal plate consisting of an anterior incline that guides the mandible to a forward position when the patient closes his mouth…
This will create the sagittal relationship without keeping lower anterior forward…
Who else used the jumping bite concept n how?
Herbst used the same Concept for the fabrication of herbst appliance…
Mandibular advancement is kept at EDGE to EDGE position at the start of treatment….
