青麻
あおそ
Ramie fibre
Perennial plant from nettle family. Makes a very white but rough textured paper. Long fibers, wide and shaped like a ribbon
羅紋紙
らもんし - a decorated paper where the dyed fiber (such as gampi) is twilled and overlaid on the entire surface of the paper. Existed during the Heian Period and died out, but attempts to revive it are happening
Retting
A process employing the action of micro-organisms and moisture on plants to dissolve or rot away much of the cellular tissues and pectins surrounding bast-fibre bundles, and so facilitating separation of the fiber from the stem
蝋箋
ろうせん - wax-rubbed paper

しゃ - a fine screen, usually silk gauze, placed on top of a su to produce a fine thin paper

しゅくし - re-used paper. Paper insufficiently deinked was called light inked paper or water clouded paper

すげた - paper making mold - combo of su (screen) and keta (frame)
杉原紙
すいばらがみ - named for Sugihara-mura (Hyougo) at the end of the Heian Period. Kozo paper representing the middle ages, favored by samurai and priests for gifts. Not as thick as Danshi, favored by samurai but became popular with common people during the Edo Period

すきかえし - a kind of recycled paper. In the Edo Period, paper substances other than plant fibers were used to make the pulp
