what is Tenakh and what does it contain?
Tenakh is referred as the Hebre bible and contains three sections:
- Torah (the first 5 books of the bible)
- Nevi’im (the prophets)
- Ketuvim (the writings)
what is the importnace of the Tenakh
- it is a key source of wisdom and authority for jewish people
- it is the word of God which must be followed
- contains the torah which is the basis of Jewish belief
- forms the 613 mitzvot
What is a Talmud and what does it contain
Talmud is the Oral law and it contains:
- mishnah (collection of oral teachings)
- Gemara (commentory on Mishnah)
What is the Bar/bat Mitzvah
Jewish ceremonial recognising the turning of the age of responsibility, which takes plase at 13 for boys and 12 for girls (then the father thanks God for not being punished for his sons sins)
