List 4 reasons a hematoma may occur with insertion:
1) Angle too great
2) Too much force may have punctured the posterior wall of vein
3) Fragile veins d/t age, medical condition
4) Catheter too large
List 4 ways to dilate a vein:
1) Dangling the arm down to promote more blood volume
2) Applying heat to cause vasodilation
3) Gentle tapping with a finger
4) Applying the tourniquet above the antecubital fossa for better visualization
Leave the tourniquet no longer than …. minutes to prevent vein fatigue and decrease venous pooling.
