Answer 1

Within 24 hours post insertion.
Securement Transparent semi-permeable membrane every 7 days
Gauze every 48 hours
PRN: when drsg’s integrity is compromised

Question 2

When are the infusor caps changed?

Answer 2

Every 7 days with dressing changes 
or PRN:
When leaking
When blood is evident
Cap is replaced with a new sterile cap if removed for any reason

Change one change all

Question 3

When should a gauze dressing be used instead of a transparent one?

Answer 3

Always use a securement transparent semi-permeable membrane unless exudate present or allergy to transparent semi-permeable membrane.
In those cases use gauze dressing.

Question 4

When inspecting the catheter exit site, what are you observing the presence of?

Answer 4

Inspect catheter exit site for: 
redness
swelling
tenderness
discharge

If purulent exudate is present, plan to collect sample for culture and sensitivity.
