Acyclovir

A

( Zovirax )

IV slow over one hour ( to protect kidneys )

Mix with sterile water ( not bacteriostatic water which contains benzoyl alcohol or parabens. Preservatives )

Do not refrigerate. If refrigerate and ppt forms. Leave out at room temp to dissolve

Cephalosporins

A

Most are D5W or NS

Adjust in renal except for ceftriaxone
CEFTRIAXONE : do no need to dose adjust in renal failure. Not affected by patients going through dialysis
NS D5W yes but no lactated ringers ( has calcium incompatible with Ceftriaxone )
