Bolgheri Sassicaia was named offical subzone in 1994 and elevated to its own monopole in 2013 - Monovarietal Cab, CF, Merlot are permitted but Sangio/Syrah cannot contribute more than 50% of a red blend.

Main soils of Tuscany
- Soils in Tuscany range from soft and crumbly, marl-like clay-limestone and dense sandstone in the Apennine foothills to sandy clay around San Gimignano and gravelly clay and sandy soils in the Bolgheri and Maremma areas.

What is Governo?
Refermentation of dried grapes in fermentation vats. Also adding suga, color and tannins. Alcohol is increased resulting in a heavier mouthfeel and riper expression of fruit. This prcoess also encourages malolactic conversion.
