- Faced the Austrians at lodi in May
- Although this was a fight with Austrian rear guards Napoleons bravery was well published
- Milan was occupied and its art treasures were pillaged
- Pope and king of Naples signed rapid treaties with Frances and payed indemnities to avoid a potential France takeover
- Advanced southwards to take Mantova,Peschiera, verona e legnago
- Struggled for 8 months to take mantua
- May 1797 napoleon’s docs occupied Venice
