Project Initiation - Recognition of a
Problem, Opportunity, or Directive
Planning
Project manager negotiates with the system owners the project’s:
- Scope
- Budget
- Schedule
Plan for Collecting end user’s needs through:
- personal interviews
- observation
- review of existing documentation

Logical Design
- The translation of business user requirements into a system models
- That depicts only the business requirements INDEPENDENT of any possible technical design or implementation of those requirements
Physical Design
- Show not only what a system is or does
- Includes who the system will be technically implemented
- Evaluate several feasible configurations
- prepare implementation proposal
Operational Feasibility
Operational: Does the product support the organization’s strategic objectives? Will the project be supported by the users and management?
Technical Feasibility
Does the organization possess the required technology? Do personnel have the knowledge to effectively use the system
Economic Feasibility
Is the project cost effective? Can the organization afford it?
Schedule Feasibility
Can the system be developed fast enough for the orgs needs?
Systems Implementation Objectives
To BUILD AND TEST a functional system that fulfills business and design requirements. must interface between new system and existing systems

RFQ
Requests for Quotations: used when you have already decided on the specific product, but that product can be acquired from several distributors
RFP
Request for proposals: used when several diff vendors and or products are candidates and you want to solicit competitive proposals and quotes
System Acceptance Test
Alpha Testing: user tests information systems by using SIMULATED DATA
Beta Testing: Runs the system in a live environment using REAL DATA.–> test for system performance, peak workload processing performance, and backup/recovery testing
Conversion Plan (facilitated by who?) Strategies
Facilitated by the project manager.
Conversion Strategies: Direct, Parallel, Location, Phased
