Gender bias
the differential treatment or representation of men and women based on
stereotypes rather than real difference
Universality
any underlying characteristic of human behavior which
can be applied to all individuals, regardless of their differences
Androcentrism
the consequence of beta bias and occurs when all behaviour is compared
according to a ‘male’ standard, often to the neglect or exclusion of women
Beta bias
a tendency to ignore or minimise differences between men and women
Alpha bias
a tendency to exaggerate differnces between men and women
Bias
leaning towards a particular view that dosent reflect relaity
Cultural bias
Cultural relativism
to view a persons culture from the perspective of someone within the culture rather than your own
Ethnocentrism
judging other culture by the standards and values of your own culture
Etic approach
looks at behaviour outside of a given culture and attempts to descibe those behaviours as normal
Emic approach
an approach to research that involves studying behaviour in a single culture.
