Why do sects form in social change? Examples?

A

Sects form in periods of social change because social change creates anomie which creates uncertainty leading to people forming/joining sects.
Methodism is an example of a sect that arises as a response to chaos and uncertainty and offer support and solution.
Bruce - emergence of sects is the result of modernisation and secularisation.
