Isotopes Flashcards
What is the definition of an isotope?
An Isotope is a variant of the same element that differ by the number of neutrons which creates a difference is mass.
Where are the Mass, Atomic Number, Charge, Coefficient, and Atom Quantity Variables Placed around the Atomic Symbol?
Mass is top Left, Atomic Number is bottom left, Charge is Top Right, Coefficient is the Coefficient of the Symbol and the Atom Quantity is Bottom Right.
What is the mass of 1 AMU (Atomic Mass Unit)
1.67 *10E-27
Which sub-atomic particle(s) have the mass of 1 AMU
The Proton and Neutron
How do you name an Isotope?
The element followed by the number of neutrons
There is an element with 16 protons and 15 neutrons, what is the name of the isotope?
sulfur - 15
nitrogen has 8 neutrons, what is the name of the isotope?
nitrogen - 8
fluorine has an atomic mass of 20 with an atomic number of 9, what is the name of the isotope?
fluorine - 11
zinc has an atomic mass of 66 with an atomic number of 30, what is the name of the isotope?
zinc - 36
