Isosmosis& isotonic Flashcards
Isosmosis
Which is the force prevent what movement?
The constancy of the osmotic pressure of ECF
Osmotic movement
Osmotic pressure depends on?
Number of solute particles per unit volume
osmolarity and osmotic concentration
What is molarity and osmolarity and the differences?
Molarity: number of mole of solute particles
Osmolarity: number of osmoles of solute particles
Example:
1mole glucose = 1 osmole ( no dissociation)
1mole NaCl = 2 osmole ( dissociation into: Na, Cl)
When a compound cannot be dissociate, then osmolarity and molarity of that compound will be similar, vice versa
What is for an isosmotic solution to be isotonic?
The membrane must be equally “impermeable” to all solute
Does all isotonic are isosmotic?
Yes, but not all isosmotic are isotonic
Physiological saline is isotonic or isosmotic?
Isotonic
What is the water movement in isotonic solution?
There’s no movement
Hypertonic RBC?
And % of NaCl
RBC cell shrink
3% NaCl
Isotonic at RBC cell and %?
Shape of RBC does not change
0.9% of NaCl
Isosmotic = isotonic
Hypotonic of RBC cell and %
RBC disrupts (hemolysis) 0.3 NaCl
