Isomers Flashcards
1
Q
What are Chain Isomers?
A
When the Carbon Chain is different
e.g. Butane and Methylpropane
2
Q
What are Positional Isomers?
A
When the Functional Groups are in different positions
e.g. Propan-1-ol and Propan-2-ol
3
Q
What are Functional Group Isomers?
A
When the Compounds have the same Molecular Formula, but different Functional Groups
e.g. Propanoic Acid and Methyl Ethanoate
4
Q
What are Stereoisomers?
A
Only found with Alkenes -double bond so can’t spin
The orientation of the atoms on either side of the double bond is different
5
Q
What is a Z Isomer?
A
When the heavier groups are on the Same side
6
Q
What is an E Isomer?
A
When the heavier groups are on Opposite sides
