Chartism
Lasting from 1837-1848
Mass democratic working class movement to pass peoples’ charter in Britain
Granting male suffrage, secret ballot, equal electoral districts etc
Fourierism
Form of utopian socialism
Based on the ideas of Charles Fourier
Appealed to middle-class, especially women
Sought to make work more enjoyable
Liberalism
Political and social theory that advocates representative gov. Free trade & freedom of speech & religion

Later developed by followed to form basis for the theory and practice of communism
Utopian socialism
During mid 19th century
Drawn from communist and socialist ideas
Utopian socialist wanted to transform states, jobs , and human relations
Wahhabism
18th century reform movement originated by Muhammad ibn abd al Wahhab
Preached absolute oneness of god and wanted to return to pure Islam
Started a movement which killers nonbelievers
Imperialism
Process of nation building and the acquisition of new territories
European powers imperialists African by invading , occupying and colonizing
Orientalism
Orientalism was displayed in paintings and literature
Portrayed nonwestern people as exotic, sensuous, and economically backwards
Paintings featured snake charmers and inhabitants of the harem suggesting the whole region was inhabited by these types
Anarchism
The belief that society should be a free association of members not subject to gov.laws of police
Appealed to North American workers
Was a result of frustration from the widening of inequalities in income and slow pace of reform
Syndicalism
The org, of workplace associations that includes unskilled laborers, socialism and anarchism
