The Ottomans conquer Constantinople. Constantinople becomes the capital of the Ottoman Empire and is renamed Istanbul. The Islamic Caliphate will be located in Istanbul in Europe, until October 29, 1923, when the Republic of Turkey is formed. Kemal Ataturk became the first president.
