M gave unclear instructions on who should succeed him, causing mass chaos. Ali and Abu Bakr would eventually lead their own separate groups.

Why did Judaism and Islam split early on?
Muslims recognized Jesus as a prophet, while Jews did not. Jews also aligned themselves with Aristocrats who opposed Muhammad.
