The five pillars

A

Shahada: which means to declare one’s faith in God and belief in Muhammad as his messenger

Salat: which means to pray five times a day facing Mecca, the holiest city in Islam

Zakat: which means to give a portion of one’s wealth, usually 2.5%, to the poor and needy

Sawm: which means to fast from dawn to dusk during the month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar

Hajj: which means to perform a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime, if physically and financially able.
