What is verbal irony?
A
The speaker says the opposite of what they mean. Simplest form of irony; present in everyday conversation.

What is dramatic irony?
A
A discrepancy between what a character thinks and what the reader knows to be true. The character is unaware of something the reader is aware of.

A
A situation turns out to be different than expected. Characters’ actions bring results opposite their expectations.
