When will IRIC/ RIC be established?
Anytime firefighters are on air inside a structure, or command deems it necessary
What is the objective of IRIC/RIC?
To have a fully equipped rescue team on site, in a ready state, to immediately react and respond to rescue firefighters
What does IRIC stand for?
Initial Rapid Intervention Crew
What is the primary IRIC member’s responsibilities?
- Tracking interior personnel

What are the requirements of the Primary IRIC position?

Is the secondary IRIC member permitted to take on other roles, such as, safety officer, or equipment operator?

The position requires a radio with PPE and SCBA nearby to be donned as soon as possible

What are the standard exceptions to the IRIC requirement at structure fires?
- When there is a reported or suspected life hazard where immediate action could prevent the loss of life
- When the fire is in an incipient stage that could be controlled by a portable fire extinguisher

One RIC Engine and one RIC Rescue
What are the dispatch resources for RIC on a working first alarm?

What are Commands options for the use of RIC companies?
- Address visible hazards
- To identify critical factors and apply the appropriate risk management profile
- Assign the company to RIC duties and designate rescue sector/branch
- If assigned to anything other than RIC duties, command should request additional companies as our RIC units
- Cancel the company enroute after the declaration of “fire under control” and PAR’s have been obtained from all crews
- Assigned other duties; such as relief for working crews, overhaul duties, etc.
What are the RIC/rescue sector responsibilities?
- Monitor tactical radio channel en-route

As RIC/Rescue Sector, what are the components to develop and communicate a Search Plan?
- Consider the point of entry for crew/member in trouble
- Consider the last known location crew/member in trouble
- Consider fuel load, water supply, hose line selection
- Assign tasks to entry crew
- Monitor air supply
- Provide timely CAN reports to Command/Rescue Branch
What are the components of developing and communicating a rescue plan?
- Consider relay rescue (call for resources early)

What are RIC/rescue sector functions?

- Request additional resources
- Provide additional means of egress for roof operations or companies operating above the ground floor
- Remove security bars/devices
