Who is responsible for accountability?
Each person involved in an incident whether at strategic, tactical or task level.
What is the purpose of accountability?
To account for all firefighters operating in the hot zone, increase firefighter safety, and a means to track the location and function of firefighters on the scene
What are the accountability responsibilities of command/strategic?
- Tracking all crews sectors divisions groups by location and function on a tactical worksheet
- know who is in charge of each SDG, crews assigned to each SDG, and what Each SDG is assigned to do
- include accountability as major element of attack planning.
- consider air supply when making tactical assignments/rotation of crews
- must obtain PAR’s from SDG
What are the Accountability responsibilities of SDG /tactical?
- Tracking of crews assigned to their sector
- Must know location/function of assigned crews
- Must be in assigned area to maintain close supervision of assigned crews
- Must obtain PAR’s of assigned crews within SDG
What are the Accountability responsibilities of Company Officer/ task?
- Must know location, and what each FF is doing
- Maintain current passport of personnel responding on apparatus at all times
- Maintain current MCT roster
- Must ensure all crew members have proper helmet company ID tags and proper SCBA face piece/ helmet name tags
- Must obtain PAR’s for their crew
- Must keep crew intact and maintain awareness of crews exit air supply
- Must ensure passport is delivered/retrieved to accountability location prior to entering/ exiting hot zone
What are the Accountability responsibilities of Engineers?
- Accountability officer who tracks crews/crew members who take hand lines from his/her apparatus
- collects passports from crews prior to entering hot zone
- Places passports on discharge gate when hose line is charged
- Places hose line ID tags on hose lines
What are the Accountability responsibilities of Firefighters?
- Must have proper company helmet tags on helmet
- Ensure name tag is placed on passport and MCT roster is updated
- Stay with crew at all times
- Maintain a constant awareness of exit air supply
What are the Accountability responsibilities of All Members?
- Immediately update company passport and MCT roster upon arrival for duty
- Ensure company Helmet ID tags are accurate
- Ensure name tags are on helmet and SCBA face piece
What is considered to be the minimum crew size?
Two or more members
What are the accountability responsibilities for all crews?
- crew should remain intact/no freelancing
- each member must have a radio
- all crews entering the hot zone must have a supervisor
- all crews will go in together, stay together, and come out together
- reduced visibility and increased risk will require close supervision by the company officer
- The entire crew will exit if a SCBA, radio, or any equipment that could compromise safety fails while in the hot zone
What consists of accountability equipment for each piece of apparatus and shift?
- passport with pouch
- small company ID tag
- helmet ID stickers
- Hoseline ID tag
When is the passport pouch replaced by the hoseline ID tag at the pump panel?
When accountability location is being tracked closer to the building by a SDG
When is the unit’s passport, passport pouch, and hoseline ID tag placed on the discharge gate at the pump panel?
When the engineer charges the stretched hoseline with water
Where do ladders leave their passport when going to the roof to perform ventilation?
The apparatus dashboard
When going interior of the structure where will the ladder crew deliver their passport to?
The engine closest to the point of entry
